A Streetcar Named Desire is a 1947 play written by American playwright Tennessee Williams for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1948. The play opened on Broadway on December 3, 1947, and closed on December 17, 1949, in the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Widely considered a landmark play, A Streetcar Named Desire deals with a culture clash between two iconic characters, Blanche DuBois, a fading relic of the Old South, and Stanley Kowalski, a rising member of the industrial, urban working class.

Join the ULYP for the monthly book review here at Rock Point Books. This month's selection is BRAINWASHED: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority by Tom Burrell. Burrell chronicles twelve myths of black inferiority, showing not only why so many black Americans still have a "slave mentality" -- years after the Emancipation Proclamation, but also how to deprogram the self-defeating attitudes and actions that keep us locked in that crushing mentality -- to help us not only to heal but to thrive. Burrell explores his subject-matter at considerable length and depth with the hope of helping to eradicate self-destructive behaviors. He believes that people have to heal from the inside-out, so his solutions start with each individual's recognition that you've been brainwashed, and that you can reprogram your mind because it is ultimately under your control. Please join us for what promises to be a fascinating night!
